Another way to look at this is to think about the process of printing using wooden block stamps. The printer begins with a single background stamp which they lay down over the whole surface. Then different stamps and different colors are added to the background to increase the intricacy and complexity of the surface. Hypertextual Self-Scapes use interviews and text in the same way the printer used the background stamp to create the groundwork. The other stamps used by the printer to increase the intricacy of the cloth are here made up of the symbols/objects chosen by participants and digital imagery which reveal a complex cloth, or in this situation a complex photograph, of lived experience.
